80 Years Young

My Grandmother Hall officially turns the big 8-0 tomorrow, so we celebrated tonight at my Mom & Dwight's house. We had about 30 people there from my Grandmother's side of the family and enjoyed dining on Miller's BBQ, slaw, wings, potato salad, and baked beans. Mom had gotten the most delicious strawberry pound cake from Ketchie Creek Bakery and we just enjoyed being together as a family.

I can't say enough just how lucky I am to have my grandparents still alive and in my life. My Grandmother has been like a second mother to me, living in the same neighborhood as us the whole time I was growing up. When I lived at home, we ate dinner with them at least once a week and I LOVE my Grandmother's cooking - no one will ever quite measure up.

I remember so many funny times - Like when my parents were out of town and we were staying with them and we got locked out of our house and had no clothes, so we had to go to Wal-Mart to purchase new ones but we still had on our nightgowns, so Grandmother took one of her belts and put it around my gown to make it look like a dress! Ha!  She was also the person I called when my water frog leaped from its container and onto the countertop and I was too scared to pick it up - I made her come over to my house for the sole purpose of puting it back into its container for me!

I also remember so many sentimental times, like how she would always let us pick out the menu for our birthday dinners and enjoyed so much fixing us our favorite foods. We always sit around the big dining room table and everyone has "their" chairs.

Now, Whit and I try to go over to my Grandmother and Papa's at least every other week. Whit and Grandmother sit at the kitchen table while Grandmother feeds him cookies and lets him drink Coca-Cola. Whit calls Coca-Cola "Grandmother drink" since he's never had it anywhere else! She goes outside with him to play "ball" with the same white plastic ball. She always comments about how much he's grown - even if it's only been a couple of days since she saw him last.

My Grandmother is one of these people who never tries to be funny, but is hilarious. She has always been the epitome of classy to me and such a role model in every aspect of her life.

Happy Birthday, Dear Grandmother, and may you have many many more! We love you more than words can describe!
