Hot Doughnuts Now

My two-and-a-half-year-old never ceases to amaze me. He can go from a happy, well-behaved child to a crazy maniac in no time flat. Today we had a morning that should have been on a sitcom. In fact, for a minute I wondered if we were being filmed for Candid Camera, America's Funniest Home Videos, or Punk'd. We met Suzanne & Sanna at McDonald's for an early lunch (where Whit "escaped" into the kitchen through the side swinging door as we were trying to leave), then hit up the sale at Gazoodles (where he was actually very good), and finally went to Krispy Kreme for a pre-nap snack. To make a long story short, Whit went from a sweet boy sitting at the table nicely with Sanna sporting the KK hat...

a happy boy anxiously awaiting his glazed doughnut...

thoroughly enjoying his "hot doughnut now"...

helping Mommy take a picture of Suzanne and Sanna...

and posing with Mommy for a picture.

In fact, from these pictures, it looks like we had a perfectly civilized time, right? Believe me, this is where I'd like to stop the story! Well, looks can certainly be deceiving! He went from the sweet boy in those pictures to a maniac child who threw our tray into the trash can, ran from his boot-wearing, broken-foot Mama in the parking lot causing me to drop a dozen doughnuts (thankfully they stayed in the box and the box landed on the ground so they weren't a loss), hid from me behind a car when I tried to come after him (nearly giving me a heart attack since I couldn't find him), and then eventually having to corral him with the help of a nice lady in the parking lot who felt sorry for me hobbling around after him.

I thanked the woman probably one too many times, had tears streaming down my face, and she tried to comfort me by explaining that she's a grandmother of boys and that this is "normal." Honestly, I'm just surprised nobody called DSS.

Needless to say, he was in "time out" the entire ride home and his Mama gave him the silent treatment. We came in and he went straight to bed.

I can't quit thinking WWSND? What Would Super Nanny Do?

I need to research this "running away from me junk" and figure out how to put a stop to it that doesn't require handcuffing him to me when we go out in public! :)  Don't let anybody fool you, it's a tough job being a Mama to a two-and-a-half-year old.

I think I'll put myself down for a nap too.

It is a wonderful gift for anyone who has adopted a child, given a child for adoption, or is a grandparent or family member in either situation. Plus, I have to say how cute your blog is!
