It's been a while since I've blogged and I need to go back through and document some stuff that's happened since, um....the end of March (!!!), but until I get a chance to upload pics and get my thoughts in order, I will talk about the here and now - which is SUMMER!
Summer officially started for me when classes let out in mid-May, but with our Africa trip, getting over jet-lag, Kevin tearing ligaments in his foot, Whit's 3rd birthday, Father's Day, etc. (all of which I'll catch you up on later), it really hasn't felt truly like summer to me. I know I've officially been on summer break now for almost 6 weeks (and have only 7 weeks left in my break), but I really haven't had a chance to relax, get some sun, and spend some time with my boy. All of those things are on the top of my to-do list for the next 7 weeks straight!
Yesterday was the longest day of the year so Whit and I spent the Summer Solstice swimming in my best friend's parents' pool. I have one word to describe Whit swimming --- FISH! He put on the puddle jumper that he got for his birthday (thanks, Heather, Hunter & Hannah!) and jumped off the diving board into the deep end no less than 20 times! Each time he swam over to the edge, climbed up the ladder, and ran back around to the diving board. After teaching swimming lessons for 8 years in high school and college as well as swimming competitively from ages 4-18, I'm usually weary of any sort of flotation devices on children (as I feel they become dependent on them and don't "truly" learn how to swim), but this one lets him still use his arms, allows him to float on his back, swim with his face in the water (which he started yesterday) and most importantly gives him confidence. I'm so glad he shares an affinity for all things water with his Mama and I know that we'll be spending the next 7 weeks perfecting his cannonball!
- spend as little money as possible this summer while not skimping on the FUN
- take Whit to see his first theater movie
- go to the Toddler Time at the public library & check out books and utilize the public library more
- get a head start on Christmas shopping
- continue to clean and organize closets around the house (one of my New Year's Resolutions)
- eat as many fresh, in-season foods as possible
- use the fire pit in our backyard to make s'mores
- visit Ohio
- make plans for a family vacation for next summer for just the 3 of us
Happy Summer Everyone!
